Skopje, 9 July 2025 (МIА) -- The construction of North Macedonia's section of the natural gas interconnector with Greece begins Wednesday near Negotino, with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Minister of Energy, Mining and Minerals Sanja Bozhinovska and First Deputy PM and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti attending the start of works.
The Kumanovo construction company Rapid Bild is building the 68-km Gevgelija-Negotino part of the interconnector. In May, the company signed a contract with the state-owned natural gas transmission operator Nomagas to build this section of the gas link.
The project is valued at 60 million euros. Construction is expected to be finished in 22 months and the pipeline is expected to be put into commission in 2027.
Rapid Bild won the tender launched by Nomagas after it quoted the lowest price. It offered to build the pipeline for 59.9 million euros. This construction price was lower by 12 million euros than the one quoted by the second lowest bidder, a construction company from Serbia.
Greece's section of the 123-km gas interconnector is almost finished. mr/
