Sofia, 1 June 2022 (MIA) – There are no prerequisites for my visit, said Bulgarian President Rumen Radev about a coming trip to France, as reported yesterday by BGNES.
Citing sources from the Bulgarian government’s coalition council that took place last week, BGNES reported that President Radev and Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, accompanied by a representative of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will soon visit Paris to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, who will present a proposal on lifting Sofia’s veto for the start of North Macedonia’s EU accession negotiations.
At the Council session, as per BGNES, a representative of the Bulgarian government briefed participants that Sofia was assured by Paris that “all Bulgarian demands will be incorporated in the negotiating framework for North Macedonia and Macron will personally guarantee their implementation”.
President Radev denied on Wednesday that such a visit would take place.
“There is no progress in the open issues between Sofia and Skopje, so there are no prerequisites for my visit to Paris and President Macron. I would like to see real results. I appreciate the engagement and efforts of our European partners,” Radev said.
On PM Petkov’s statement that all decisions related to the dispute would go through the national assembly, the Bulgarian President said “the people always have the final say” adding there are constitutional mechanisms to consult them.
“I carefully monitor the parties’ positions”, he added.
