Skopje, 7 July 2025 (MIA) - The Skopje-based Public Prosecutor's Office is proceeding towards a full investigation into the causes of the fire in Vizbegovo.

"A Public Prosecutor will issue orders and guidelines for a full investigation into the causes of the fire in Vizbegovo and the possible danger to life, property or the environment," the Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.

One person has been injured in the fire that broke out at a landfill in Vizbegovo in the Municipality of Shuto Orizari on Wednesday morning. Due to the wind, smoke from the fire can be seen from several parts of the city.

The Ministry of Interior previously confirmed that the owner of the landfill in Vizbegovo has been detained, and a fire extinguishing operation is underway.

"So far, one person has been injured and transferred for medical assistance. Due to disobeying an order from an official, A.N., the owner of the legal entity that manages the waste, has been detained," said the Ministry of Interior.

A firefighting plane from the Rescue and Protection Directorate, a helicopter from the Interior Ministry, as well as several vehicles from the Skopje fire brigade and the Communal Hygiene public enterprise are currently battling the fire.
