Protest against French proposal takes place in Skopje
Skopje, 6 July 2022 (MIA) - People have gathered Wednesday for the fifth day in a row in front of the government to protest against the French proposal put forward to lift the Bulgarian veto and for opening of negotiations with the EU. To the protesters, backed by opposition parties, the proposal is detrimental to the state and fails to protest national interest. Speaking to reporters before the protest began, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski called on people to join the protest in great numbers all the while condemning the "violent behavior by individuals." Over 45 police officers were injured, 11 protesters were arrested after violent incidents were provoked during Tuesday's protest. Earlier, Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski called on all citizens who want to express their dissatisfaction through protest, to use that right in a democratic manner and not to allow themselves to be manipulated, as some others were and to attack police officers or vital buildings. After it began in front of the government, the protesters continue to march toward the Foreign Ministry before arriving in front of the Parliament.
