Skopje, 24 February 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski addressed Monday the high-level segment of the 58th session of the United Nation’s Human Rights Council in Geneva, stressing that the protection and promotion of human rights form the basis of the country’s foreign policy.
In the address, Mucunski noted the importance of the Human Rights Council as the most crucial forum for addressing challenges that hinder the protection and exercise of fundamental human rights and freedoms worldwide. He stressed that respect for democratic principles, human rights, human dignity and the rule of law are universal values that must be upheld by all. The FM also affirmed the country’s commitment to achieving the highest standards in the protection of human rights and their consistent implementation on a national level.
“In line with our commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights and freedoms, my country continues to strive for the highest standards in this area, applying them at the national level. We remain dedicated to protecting human rights and freedoms, with a particular focus on women’s rights and children’s rights, safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities and combating all forms of discrimination,” Mucunski said.
Mucunski added that North Macedonia, as member of the Human Rights Council in the 2025-2027 period, will remain firmly committed to the protection of human rights and to addressing all violations wherever they occur.
“As a Council member, we are committed to ensuring human rights are upheld and that violations are addressed wherever they occur, including in Belarus, Afghanistan, Iran, Myanmar, Sudan, Syria and Ukraine,” stressed Mucunski.
