Prosecutors request precautionary measures for second suspect in Supreme Court judge bribery case

Skopje, 21 May 2024 (MIA) — The Primary Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Corruption has requested from the Skopje Criminal Court precautionary measures against Council of Public Prosecutors member Ixhet Memeti under suspicions of bribery.


Charged with “accepting a reward for unlawful influence,” the suspect is prohibited from leaving his place of residence, will have his travel documents seized and will have to appear in court when summoned.


Earlier on Tuesday, prosecutors also launched a probe against Supreme Court judge Nake Georgiev, after police arrested him Monday following a report by the the son of a suspect in a separate case led by the PPO.


According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Supreme Court judge Georgiev, using his official position and influence, falsely promised benefits for a suspect (the father of the person who reported the offense), claiming he would exert influence alongside with Memeti.


According to the Prosecutor’s Office, detainment has only been requested for Georgiev, due to the legal basis provided by the evidence. He was arrested Monday after being caught in the act and stripped of his judicial immunity. mr/
