Skopje, 31 October 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova received Thursday the credentials of newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus Andreas Photiou and Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia Imen Laajili Laamari, based in Belgrade.

At the handover ceremony of the credentials by the Ambassador of Cyprus, the President pointed out that since establishing diplomatic ties in 2019, bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries gained a new goal and dynamic, based on mutual understanding and support, and expressed desire to build strong ties between the two countries and its citizens.

"We would greatly appreciate if you continue to act affirmatively in the future and advocate the need to maintain the EU-enlargement dynamic. The European future of Western Balkan countries guarantees stability and prosperity of the entire region, also for maintaining the Union's credibility," Davkova noted.

Ambassador Photiou emphasized the shared commitment to peace, stability and progress, noting that it is essential to strengthen cooperation and deepen mutual dialogue on issues affecting both nations.

"As Ambassador, I am prepared to work hard to promote closer ties between our two countries, our economic, cultural, and political partnership. I believe that through cooperation, we can answer joint challenges, promote sustainable growth, and improve ideals related to democracy and human rights," stated Photiou.

At her meeting with the Tunisian Ambassador, President Siljanovska Davkova said she believes the potential that exists between the two countries will be adequately utilized to further strengthen mutual relations and uncover new areas for cooperation on an economic, cultural, and international plan, as well as for the exchange of experiences and good practices.

"Your presence today marks the start of an important chapter in the bilateral relations between our two countries and people, which I hope will improve and expand further," Davkova said.

Ambassador Laajili Laamari said that it is a big responsibility being the first Tunisian Ambassador and that her priority during her mission will be enriching bilateral and legal framework as basis for future cooperation.

"I believe that your continuous commitment to gender equality will bring our two countries closer, because since its independence in 1956 Tunisia is a pioneering country in terms of promoting women's status, not only in the regions of South Africa and Middle East, but also around the world," Laajili Laamari added.
