President Siljanovska Davkova receives credentials of new Ambassador of Philippines

Skopje, 7 July 2025 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova received Monday the credentials of newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines, Giovanni Endencia Palec, based in Athens, the President's Office said in a press release.

Siljanovska Davkova stressed the importance of relations and cooperation with the Philippines, both bilaterally and multilaterally. She pointed out that the two countries should focus on intensifying political dialogue, exploiting the potential in economy and trade, developing cultural ties, and stimulating scientific and educational exchange and tourism.

"Pointing out that we live at a time of challenges and real threats to global peace and security, as well as a tendency to resolve issues through the use of force, the President highlighted the necessity of active cooperation within the United Nations and other relevant international organizations and forums, in the spirit of multilateralism," reads the press release.

Assessing Monday's handover ceremony of the credentials as historic, Ambassador Palec said the meeting was a special moment not only for him, but also for both countries, as concrete steps are being taken to establish closer relations.

He pointed out that although formal diplomatic relations are at an early stage, they are based on shared values and principles, respect for human rights, the rule of law and peaceful resolution of disputes.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2021, Ambassador Palec is the first Filipino to hold this responsible post in the country, which, Siljanovska Davkova concluded, makes him part of the history of Macedonian-Philippine relations.
