President Siljanovska Davkova meets UNICEF Deputy Executive Director van der Heijden in Baku

Skopje, 13 November 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met Wednesday with UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Kitty van der Heijden on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, expressing satisfaction from the continued fruitful cooperation in many key areas relating to the well-being of children and young people in the Macedonian society, with a focus on equality, inclusivity, promotion and protection of their rights.

In the context of climate change and its impact on children's lives, Siljanovska Davkova and Heijden highlighted the importance of policies focused on promotion of sustainable development and green initiatives for environment protection, the President's Office said in a press release.

Interlocutors reaffirmed the need for the country to include the issue of children in its this Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for climate change, towards setting up systemic mechanisms for their protection from climate change.

President Siljanovska Davkova also noted the institutions' readiness for further cooperation with UNICEF, so that every child has an equal chance and opportunity to use its potential, along with access to quality education, healthcare and protection, reads the press release.
