President Siljanovska Davkova meets ILO Office for Central and Eastern Europe Director Harasty

Skopje, 30 July 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met Tuesday with Claire Harasty, Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Central and Eastern Europe, the President's Office said in a press release. 

Talks focused on the ILO's engagement in the country so far, the role of the organization in implementing social policies, support in the establishment of the Economic and Social Council in 2010, the introduction of minimum wage, as well as implementation of a series of policies to increase the percentage of employment among young people and adopt strategies for small and medium-sized enterprises, reads the press release. 

Siljanovska Davkova expressed support for the ILO's activities, pointing out that she will continue to be a vocal supporter of all initiatives and projects to improve the living conditions of workers.

Interlocutors also discussed cooperation between the ILO and the competent Macedonian institutions, noting that the organization will continue to provide support and invest its capacities to improve the standard of workers, as well as create conditions for fair and dignified employment for all.

Since becoming an ILO member state in 1993, and as a result of the commitment to respect international labour standards, the country has ratified 81 ILO Conventions, including all ten fundamental Conventions.
