President Siljanovska Davkova: Army’s Special Forces an example of what it means to be elite

Ohrid, 11 July 2024 (MIA) – The President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, visited on Thursday the members of the Army’s Special Forces Battalion who are conducting training at the Water Training Camp in Ohrid.

Following a formal military honours reception, President Siljanovska Davkova, accompanied by the Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, was briefed on the Special Forces Battalion’s capacities, and the capabilities of the unit were showcased through demonstrations of complex water operations and combat skills.

"Now that I have seen this firsthand, it is clear to me why our army enjoys the highest trust among the citizens. I knew that our participation in numerous missions is deserved, I know how many awards these people have received, but now I saw on the spot what they can do. Once again, words of immeasurable respect, I am proud to be the Supreme Commander of these people, of our armed forces, I wish there is no need for their deployment, but I know that this country should feel safe," the President said.

She voiced hope that the standards of the Army’s Special Forces be reached in all areas, in the rule of law, in the development of democracy, as well as in the independent judiciary and in education.

Through her high evaluation of the readiness of the Army's Special Forces she conveyed a message to politicians about what it means to be elite.

"Elitism is not about holding a high position, but being the first in what you do, in the profession, and this must also apply to politics," she said.

The Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, expressed satisfaction that the President of the country and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces highly evaluated the readiness of the armed forces, pointing out that for all army members it will be a motivation and obligation to continue so in the future.
