President Pendarovski: Vaccination is key in fighting COVID-19 pandemic
Skopje, 22 September 2021 (MIA) – COVID-19 vaccination everywhere in the world is of utmost importance without any delay, President Stevo Pendarovski said via video addressing the Global COVID-19 Summit: Ending the Pandemic and Building Back Better. The virtual summit is organized by US President Joe Biden on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York, Pendarovski’s office said in a press release. In order to reach high vaccination rate globally, we all need to fight against systemic injustice with a fair, inclusive and just rollout of efficient vaccines, President Pendarovski stressed. The head of state voiced support for the common global goals to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, presented by the US President, calling them “key to stopping this threat.” “For over a year, we have been all living with the disastrous consequences from the pandemic, which have affected more poverty-stricken and vulnerable individuals and societies. No country is able to fight the pandemic on its own. We need to cooperate, to support each other and to remember that COVID-19 is not under control until it is under control everywhere. North Macedonia supports the common global goals presented today by US President Joe Biden and considers them key in stopping this threat,” President Pendarovski said in his address. In North Macedonia, he said, 55 percent of the citizens have been vaccinated with at least one dose. Pendarovski pledged that at least 70 percent of the population in the country will be fully vaccinated by the end of the year. “However, in order to achieve this goal globally as soon as possible, we all need to fight against the systemic injustice with fair, inclusive and just rollout of efficient vaccines. At the same time, we have to fight against the destructive effects of fake news and disinformation campaigns by spreading the truth and transparency,” he stated. According to him, vaccination itself is not enough. “In order to cure the world, we have to lay the foundation of a more resilient, integrated, just and inclusive global health system that will help us prevent, discover, reach and recover from any future pandemic or other global health-related threats,” President Pendarovski told the summit.
