PPO sets committee tasked with monitoring election-related irregularities

Skopje, 16 February 2024 (MIA) - The Public Prosecutor's Office (PPO) has reinstated the committee tasked with monitoring possible election irregularities involving crimes related to the organization and administration of the elections.

This is one of the decisions made at Friday's PPO staff meeting, during which new Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski briefed public prosecutors on the priorities within the program for his mandate as well as activities to strengthen transparency and trust in the institution.

Public prosecutor Xhelal Bajrami has been appointed head of the committee on monitoring election-related irregularities, said the PPO.

Members of the temporary committee include one public prosecutor from the four Higher Public Prosecutor's Offices and a public prosecutor from the Skopje-based Public Prosecutor's Office.

"The proactive and preventive action of the Public Prosecutor's Office related to the upcoming elections is in the direction of priority action towards election irregularities. The committee will monitor on a daily basis all developments related to the organization and administration of the elections, and wherever it deems that there are indications of committed criminal acts related to the elections, it will notify the lower basic prosecutor's offices with instructions for immediate action," the PPO said.

The PPO calls on the public, civil society organizations, other organizations, political parties, national and international institutions to report to the committee possible election irregularities believed to involve crimes related to the organization and administration of the elections via the email izbori@jorm.mk .
