Warsaw, 21 February 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Poland's President Andrzej Duda on Tuesday appealed to NATO member states in Europe to continue supporting Ukraine with weapons.

"I call on all leaders of European NATO countries to show solidarity with Ukraine, to support Ukraine and to provide it with constant military support so that Ukraine's defenders have something to fight with," Duda said in Warsaw.

"Do not hesitate. Do not be afraid. This is no time for business as usual."

Poland's president spoke at Warsaw's Royal Castle just before a speech by US President Joe Biden, who is visiting Poland on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Biden had travelled to Kiev on Monday under tight security and had met, among others, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He promised the country continued US support.

Duda described the situation in Ukraine, which was attacked by Russia nearly a year ago, as like being on fire, with World War II-like scenarios playing out there.

"This is happening because Russia wants to become an empire again and realize its ambitions to enslave other peoples."

The free world cannot allow this, he warned.
