US plane manufacturer Boeing secures $96 billion order in Qatar

Abu Dhabi, 14 May 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Qatar Airways intends to purchase up to 210 jets from Boeing, the US government said on Wednesday.

The deal for aircraft of the 787 Dreamliner and 777X types has a volume of $96 billion, the White House announced. It was said to be the largest order of Boeing wide-body aircraft to date.

The companies signed the agreement during US President Donald Trump's visit to Qatar. Boeing was represented by company chief executive Kelly Ortberg.

Trump appeared to estimate the volume at $200 billion at one point, before the White House stated the figure of $96 billion. Details of the deal initially remained unclear. Boeing referred to the government's statement.

Boeing has been in a crisis for years and recently lagged behind its European rival Airbus in orders. The delivery of the first aircraft from the 777X family, which is intended to replace today's 777 models, is planned for next year.

There have been multi-year delays in development, and Boeing has already accumulated orders for several hundred aircraft of this type.

Trump has been travelling in the Gulf region since Tuesday and had many business leaders by his side during the first stop in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi leadership announced multibillion-dollar investments in the United States and also agreed on large-scale arms purchases with the US side.
