Tetovo, 3 October 2021 (MIA) – The road to solution is through talks and though dialogue. We are friendly countries and our people are close. As immediate neighbors with Bulgaria, we should cooperate, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev told reporters on Sunday. On Wednesday, Slovenia will host the EU-Western Balkans Summit. There, Zaev said, we will meet with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, Slovenian PM Janez Jansa and EU top officials. European Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron will also be in attendance. PM Zaev said the conclusion of the election processes in both North Macedonia and Bulgaria is the first reason to have a good chance. “The second reason is to be on the right track in the negotiations. Mutual understanding is more visible in the process,” he stated. Asked what his expectations are from the EU-Western Balkans Summit, Zaev said it won’t be a decision-making, but a political forum dedicated to the Western Balkan countries. “I believe that a clear message regarding EU enlargement will be sent to the Western Balkans through adequate formulations, concrete gestures and serious decisions,” he said adding it would further motivate Bulgaria and North Macedonia to close outstanding issues by the end of the year and open a new chapter of cooperation. On Sunday, PM Zaev was accompanied by Agriculture Minister Arijanit Hoxha to plant seeds as part of a campaign of the National Forests Public Enterprise to repair damages caused by wildfires this past summer. The event took place near the village of Tenovo in northwestern North Macedonia. Zaev said the campaign was part of the government’s commitment to afforesting fire-affected areas and increasing greenery in a bid to protect biodiversity, public health and alleviate erosion and floods.
