PM Mickoski calls Open Balkan initiative flawed

Skopje, 27 August 2024 (MIA) – The Open Balkan initiative is flawed and incomplete. There will be quicker flow of people and goods only without borders, which unfortunately still exist and for which there are still disputes in the region, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Tuesday.

Any regional initiative, he added, that may be an added value is good, but things should be viewed realistically.

“At the end of the day, all the countries in the region aim to join the EU,” Mickoski told a news conference.

Asked for a follow-up on his yesterday’s remarks about possible destabilization attempts, Mickoski reiterated that the citizens should remain calm and focus on development, investments and construction.

“We’ve been monitoring the actions of newly-minted rich politicians and businessmen, who earned their fortune on the backs of ordinary people and we can say they are powerless to mobilize people for protest without inciting ethnic intolerance,” he said.
