PM: Macedonian language in negotiating framework is Macedonian language
Skopje, 1 July 2022 (MIA) - The Macedonian language in the negotiating framework is Macedonian language. All our identity issues are protected because those were our essential demands we stuck by during the negotiations, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Friday after meeting with junior government coalition partners over the French proposal on possible lifting of the Bulgarian veto and opening of EU negotiations. The proposal, he said, will be forwarded to Parliament in accordance with the constitutional order of our country, which is to be discussed in Parliament after being approved by the government, he told reporters noting the country is committed to its strategic goal to join the EU. Refraining from commenting on media reports in Bulgaria, Kovachevski said that "it is a fact the Bulgarian Parliament has adopted a new resolution that annuls the resolution seen as very restrictive in terms of lifting of the veto. This is something that has allowed to come to this proposal." Asked whether a consensus will be made, the PM stressed that it is the responsibility of every politician to take future generations in consideration rather than to think only about their political career. According to Kovachevski, leaders in politics should know when to say 'no'. "I said 'no' when I went to Brussels supported by the coalition and the head of state and the citizens as well to something we deemed it is no good. We've continued our talks and we've come to a solution that is being discussed today." Kovachevski called on all political parties, including those who were against the country's accession in NATO, to review the proposal before making a joint decision allowing the country "to embark on a path to joining the EU because by making the right decision we will start by holding the first intergovernmental conference with the EU."
