PM Kovachevski to attend 77th UN General Assembly in New York
Skopje, 18 September 2022 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, accompanied by his wife, who leads the government delegation, will travel to New York to attend the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly from Sept. 19-24.
A government delegation also includes Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, the permanent representative of the Republic of North Macedonia to the UN, Ljubomir Frchkovski, as well as the foreign affairs advisor to the PM, Edmond Ademi.
PM’s office issued a statement on Sunday saying he will attend and address the general debate of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly under the theme, “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges.”
PM Kovachevski will participate and address the Transforming Education Summit convened by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and UNESCO. The debate will be in the direction of improving the education systems in the countries through reform processes that will provide quality and accessible education for every child.
PM Kovachevski will also deliver remarks at the high-level meeting of the 77th session of the General Assembly to mark the commemoration of the thirtieth anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities.
During his visit to New York, the Prime Minister will deliver a lecture at the Columbia University, where he will explore the unique model of sustainable democracy of the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as the country's economic integration and transformation. The lecture will be held as part of the series of speakers and lectures at the Columbia University World Leaders Forum, that has hosted more than 300 heads of state and world leaders from over 85 countries so far, including the Prime Minister of Croatia Zoran Milanović, the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Prime Minister of Norway, Solberg, the Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin. Past speakers also include the former US President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State of the United States Madeleine Albright, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Within the framework of the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Kovachevski has been invited to attend receptions hosted by US President Joe Biden and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
While in New York, Kovachevski is to meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Moreover, he will also hold bilateral meetings and will meet Macedonian community in New York.
