PM Kovachevski: European proposal in full accordance with Parliament Resolution
Skopje, 5 July 2022 (MIA) - The new European proposal is fully in accordance with the Parliament Resolution, which shows that the government, myself as prime minister and the relevant institutions have been safeguarding the state interests at home and abroad with responsibility, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Tuesday at a news conference in Skopje alongside European Council President Charles Michel.
We, he added, stick consistently to the state positions in the negotiations with the Republic of Bulgaria in every way.
"We protect the public interest and the Macedonian national identity," Kovachevski said adding the European proposal being discussed over the past few days in the country is a proposal that includes the country's remarks and clearly declared positions.
Announcing that the bilateral protocol with Bulgaria will be published, PM Kovachevski reiterated that the proposal with all accompanying documents has been already made available to the public.
"The European proposal has defined positions for the Macedonian language to be clearly and unequivocally accepted. The Macedonian language in the proposal is absolutely clear and equal with all other languages in the EU without any footnotes. We got what we'd been fighting for for years - clear formulation of the Macedonian language. We, the Macedonians, are proud of our history, language and identity with all of its aspects. The Macedonian people will never be assimilated by anyone, ever - it's a fact," Kovachevski pledged.
The decision on the future of the country and the citizens depends on us, he said. "The citizens of North Macedonia deserve to live as part of the European family."
"Also, under the proposal, historical issues are not in the negotiating framework. Outstanding issues with the neighbors should be closed, however there's time for that until a just resolution for both sides is found. The protocol between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria is not noted in the negotiating framework. It is a bilateral document that is not part of the European package," the PM explained.
According to Kovachevski, the intergovernmental conference and the screening process can take place without delay and without any additional conditions. The final European proposal, he added, allows unconditional opening of North Macedonia's negotiations with the EU and putting into effect the 2020 decision of the European Council.
"Let us think rationally, wisely and responsibly and let us think of the future of our children. Now's the time to leave daily politics aside and stick to the official documents at disposal. Let us fulfil our strategic goal - full-fledged EU membership," PM Kovachevski urged thanking for the support of the European Commission, the European countries, the international community, the United States, the neighbors regarding the revised European proposal.
