PM: Gov't has passed series of decisions for tackling the crisis
Delchevo, 31 October 2022 (MIA) - No one should have to choose between electricity and food. It's a priority how the citizens will spend the coming winter, which is why the government is working hard to leave no one behind this winter and no one to be left alone to deal with the crisis, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski stated Monday. He referred to a recent session in which the government reached decisions securing cheaper electricity of EUR 80 per megawatt hours for the companies producing basic foodstuffs. Under the decision, the prices of the basic foodstuffs, including bread, flour, milk and dairy products, cooking oil, meat and poultry, pastry will stabilize, according to Kovachevski. "The manufacturers of basic products have already said that under the decision, prices should drop at least 10 percent," stated the PM. At Sunday's session, the government also decided that as of December 1, primary and secondary schools and public utility enterprises will have the option of concluding an agreement with ESM Sales over the procurement of electricity at the price of EUR 95 per MWh. "The government is really committed to securing the standards for living and liquidity of companies so that we can go through this crisis together," he said adding that the government in 2022 alone adopted anti-crisis measures reaching EUR 760 million, the largest stimulus package in the region amid the energy crisis according to the World Bank. State aid, Kovachevski concluded, has been also secured for 42,000 citizens in vulnerable categories, over 330,000 pensioners, electricity subsidies for over 600,000 households and more than 72,000 small companies.
