Skopje, 7 March 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Friday the country should build its national policies on the United States' positions as a strategic partner, especially in times of disagreement within the EU on issues such as the budget.
PM Mickoski was quizzed by reporters regarding the Government's position amid global developments, saying the country's strategic objective is full-fledged EU membership, while recalling that the U.S. is a strategic partner.
"As a country, we should position alongside our strategic partner, the Government is convinced this is the direction we should take," said Mickoski.
He added the Government's support for the U.S. resolution before the United Nations Security Council was consistent with this position.
"The vote in the UN Security Council proved that our position was right, since a large part of the permanent and non-permanent members that are EU states did not vote against it, but abstained. They did not block the resolution we co-sponsored, making it binding. This is the direction the Government should take. Europe and the world need lasting peace in Ukraine," said Mickoski.
The PM expects that most of the European leaders will seek to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in the coming period, in order to find ways to put an end to the conflict caused by the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Regarding the efforts to unblock the EU accession process and whether he expects Washington to influence the end to the Bulgaria dispute, Mickoski said he uses every opportunity to present the Macedonian arguments and seek support towards untangling the country's European path.
