PHI: Number of new COVID-19 cases drops by 39.3% in past week
Skopje, 6 September 2022 (MIA) – According to the Public Health Institute’s weekly report for the period from Aug. 29 to Sept. 4, 2022, the number of new COVID-19 cases has dropped by 39.3% compared to the previous week.
In the past week, a total of 4,984 tests were carried out, 14.8% less than the previous week, and 1,069 people tested positive for COVID-19 in 31 cities and towns across the country. The percent positivity is between 9.8% and 23.3%, i.e. average 19.9%, reads the Public Health Institute’s report. The majority of the new COVID-19 cases were registered in Skopje. Cases were registered in all age groups, with the majority (40.6%) aged over 60. The least number of new cases were registered in those aged 0-9 (4%). A drop in the number of new cases compared to the previous week is registered in all cases. The most significant drop is registered in the age group 20-29 (45%). A total of 1,582 recovered patients were registered last week, 37.7% less than the previous week. In addition, the Public Health Institute registered 269 cases of COVID-19 reinfection, 33.9% less than the previous week. Five fatalities were registered, 58.3% less than the previous week. All were in the age group over 60, died in hospital and had underlying conditions. Since the onset of the epidemic, and until Sept. 4, 2022, North Macedonia has registered 340,948 COVID-19 cases. In the past week, 14 people were admitted for hospital treatment. A total of 83 patients (30.8% less compared to the previous week) are currently in hospital, of which 34 receive oxygen support. Until Sept. 3, 2022, a total of 875,606 people have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose in the country and abroad. In addition, 856,624 people have been fully vaccinated with two vaccine doses. The number of administered vaccine doses in the past week totals 317, including 40 administered as a first dose, 26 as second vaccine dose, 108 administered as third vaccine dose, and 143 administered as fourth vaccine dose.
