Petrovska: Tanks to Ukraine transported, donation does not affect army’s combat readiness
Skopje, 16 August 2022 (MIA) - The tanks that are part of the three decisions to donate military aid and arms to Ukraine have been transported and donation does not affect the army’s combat readiness, Defence Minister Slavjanka Petrovska said on Tuesday. She told Sitel TV that the since the start of the aggression on Ukraine, government so far has made three decisions and the documents are classified, however, very soon, at the proposal of Defence Minister the documents will be declassified and the public will be informed about the amount and type of equipment and arms we donated to Ukraine. Petrovska said that the equipment donated to Ukraine was planned to be destroyed soon. “When you make the decision and when you give the content that is donated, then the process of transporting that equipment follows. And that, of course, can also represent a security risk in these circumstances. That is the only reason we thought that at that moment,” Petrovska said. Explaining why the donation does not affect our Army, Minister Petrovska noted that in the country’s accession process to NATO, numerous plans have been made regarding the structure of our Army, but also about what the combat readiness of our Army means and what kind of armament we should possess. The plans, as she added, included exactly which capacities we will develop, and in that direction, all other plans for the modernization of the Army, as well as the long-term plan for the development of defense capabilities, were made. “We should not forget that since we joined NATO, we share our security together with other member countries and we are part of the collective security system,” Petrovska said. Petrovska said that new helicopters will be purchased, and this is in line with the plans for the development of our army’s defence capabilities and capacities, adding that apart from the six armored vehicles that were delivered to the country, delivery of another 27 such vehicles is expected.
