Pendarovski: Will wait for parliamentary debate before expressing position on Corridor VIII and X-d laws

Skopje, 3 May 2023 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski said Wednesday he would not sign the amendments to the Labor Relations Law, according to which workers on Corridor VIII would work 60 hours a week.

Pendarovski said he does not have the original Contract for the construction of Corridor VIII and Corridor X-d, nor has he seen it. First he will, he said, hear the parliamentary debate, and then he will share his position on each of the eight laws related to Bechtel-Enka’s construction of the corridors.

“If it remains as it is, I won’t sign it, because a decision already exists. Last year, the Constitutional Court declared such a provision as unconstitutional in another law. We can’t repeat our mistakes. Even if I were to sign it, and I won’t with this provision, it is clear that the Constitutional Court would declare it as unconstitutional,” said Pendarovski when asked if he would sign the amendments to the Labor Relations Law.

The President confirmed he hasn’t seen the Contract for the construction of Corridor VIII and Corridor X-d.

“I haven’t seen it, you know there is a partial declassification for the MPs who have a security certificate. So I don’t have the original contract. First, I would like to see the parliamentary debate, and see the issues that arise from that debate. I want to see the definitive versions of all eight laws that are in parliamentary procedure and in the end, of course, I will express my position on each of them,” underlined Pendarovski.

Regarding his wage, the President said that after the Constitutional Court’s decision, he is receiving Mden 165.000.

“Currently the wage is Mden 165.000, before it was Mden 93.000. This was already published by the media,” said Pendarovski briefly.
