Pendarovski: Unblocking of EU path depends on one country
Skopje, 10 November 2021 (MIA) – Unblocking of the path leading to the European Union depends on one country. Sofia put the block and only Sofia can remove it, says President Stevo Pendarovski. In an analysis of the political situation in Bulgaria, President Pendarovski says a government will not be formed by December 14 and current President Rumen Radev would be the only functional institution. “This is not a decision for the President to make but of all political parties. They too have a parliamentary declaration with their own red lines,” Pendarovski told TV21. Regarding Bulgaria’s denial of the Macedonian identity and language, the President says the language and the identity do not fit into any set of EU membership criteria, and once Sofia perceived that the Union doesn’t buy the rhetoric related to history, it has focused on the discrimination of Bulgarians in recent months. “There is no leader who hasn’t asked me about the Bulgarian demands. When I start talking about Goce Delchev, the historic VMRO-DPMNE, they are lost. That is why Bulgaria has changed the rhetoric in the past couple of months and now they focus on the discrimination of Bulgarians. This is a legitimate topic but why didn’t they speak about this from the very beginning?” notes Pendarovski. He adds that latest surveys have shown that Euro-enthusiasm has dropped by about 25 percent over the last year, with Russia and the United States topping the list of friendly countries for the first time on record, not states from Western Europe. “This is the first time that a western European state is not dominating but Russia, United States, China, Turkey, then comes Germany and so on…” underlines Pendarovski.
