Pendarovski to file complaint following hate speech by VMRO-DPMNE's candidate
- Presidential candidate Stevo Pendarovski will file a complaint to the Commission for Prevention and Protection from Discrimination about hate speech, insults and discrimination from the candidate Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova and the political party VMRO-DPMNE, which endorses Siljanovska’s candidacy.
Skopje, 18 April 2024 (MIA) – Presidential candidate Stevo Pendarovski will file a complaint to the Commission for Prevention and Protection from Discrimination about hate speech, insults and discrimination from the candidate Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova and the political party VMRO-DPMNE, which endorses Siljanovska’s candidacy.
“Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova and VMRO-DPMNE on several occasions at public gatherings and rallies used personal insults and slander about the candidate for president Pendarovski, which in addition to damaging his dignity and reputation, also contain elements of hate speech that might motivate others to commit hate crimes,” said Thursday’s press release issued by Pendarovski’s PR campaign team.
Pendarovski will file the material to the State Election Commission, whose Code for Fair and Democratic Elections was signed by the candidate and the party that endorses her candidacy, to the OSCE/ODIHR monitoring mission, the EU delegation and the embassies of the NATO and EU member states in the country.
Since the State Election Commission reviews objections, not complaints, in relation to adherence to the Electoral Code provisions, the material will also be filed to the body to be informed. “Being main administrators of the election process, they have a moral obligation to be informed about the blatant violation of the Code by the candidate and the party VMRO-DPMNE,” said the press release.
