Pendarovski: Status, position and role of women a clear indicator of degree of democracy in a society
- The status, the position and the role of women is a clear indicator of the degree of democracy in a society. If we want to live in a true democratic society, we must consider the needs of all citizens when creating, adopting and implementing policies. This includes a sound environment in which women will be involved and not be disengaged from the political processes, while guaranteeing a budget in which gender policies are implemented in practice, says President Stevo Pendarovski on International Women's Day.

Skopje, 8 March 2024 (MIA) - The status, the position and the role of women is a clear indicator of the degree of democracy in a society.
On this path, says President Pendarovski, we must continue to fight even harder with the barriers women face when entering public life.
"Let's encourage women entrepreneurs, women in politics and women in leadership positions. Let's ensure equal validation of their efforts and equal wages. Let's stop the gender suppression and violence, the physical but also the one through increasing systematic marginalization of the woman's social position. In order for a woman to feel safe and secure in the family, on the job and in society, there must be no precedents in doing justice for women-victims of gender-based violence," notes Pendarovski.
The President adds this is the only way to ensure political and economic empowerment of women, social justice and realization of their constitutionally guaranteed rights and freedoms.
"The more we invest in gender equality, the more we enable future generations to inherit a society of fewer stereotypes, discrimination and systemic barriers. The fight for gender equality should not be an empty platitude but something that is truly applicable in all societal and interpersonal relations. The woman, her voice and her rights must be respected. Happy March 8!" underlines Pendarovski.
