Pendarovski signs decree extending validity of driving licenses with country’s old name until year-end

Skopje, 12 February 2024 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski has signed a decree approving amendments to the Law on Traffic Safety. This move extends the validity of driving licenses bearing the country’s old name. The deadline for replacing the licenses has been set for December 31, 2024.

President Pendarovski has commended the decision reached by Members of the Parliament on Monday and have demonstrated a commitment to prioritizing the interests of citizens over daily politics and reached a decision regarding driving licenses, his Office said in a press release.

With 110 votes in favor, and none against or abstaining, Parliament adopted Monday an amendment to the Law on Traffic Safety in a fast-track procedure, extending the validity of driving licenses with the “Republic of Macedonia” name until December 31, 2024. The driving licenses bearing the country’s old name were supposed to expire on Monday midnight.
