Pendarovski - Roth: Opening of EU negotiations of crucial importance amid current geopolitical and security circumstances
Skopje, 31 August 2022 (MIA) - Opening of the EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania is of crucial importance amid the current geopolitical and security circumstances and in tackling the impact of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, President Stevo Pendarovski and Michael Roth, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag, concluded at a meeting Wednesday as part of Roth's Skopje visit.
Pendarovski and Roth shared views and information regarding the German intention to revive the Berlin Process in the second half of 2022, Pendarovski's office said. The President noted that the Berlin Process shouldn't be treated as a replacement of the EU accession process, adding that the Republic of North Macedonia has no other alternative than EU full-fledged membership.
Talks also focused on the bilateral relations between North Macedonia and Germany, characterized by friendship, trust and mutual respect and intensive political dialogue.
Pendarovski said that Germany, a driving force of the EU in the Western Balkans, is one of the country's closest allies and a secure partner in the past 30 years, said the press release adding the President thanked for North Macedonia's EU integration being a one of the top priorities of the foreign policy agenda of the Scholz-led government in Germany.
