Pendarovski meets with Kälin
Skopje, 13 October 2022 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski met Thursday with Irène Kälin, the President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation, who is paying a visit to North Macedonia.
Talks reaffirmed friendly relations between North Macedonia and Switzerland, firm since the establishment of diplomatic ties and marked with a dynamic of positive developments. Interlocutors committed to intensifying political dialogue, as well as promoting project support for further democratic and economic development of the country, the President’s office said in a press release.
Pendarovski and Kälin exchanged views on the perspectives of the bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the coming period, as well as on the challenges of the EU integration process, both of the country and the Western Balkans as a whole, stressing the importance of regional cooperation for the region’s EU perspective.
President Pendarovski, extending gratitude for Switzerland being among the most important bilateral donors in the country, expressed satisfaction with the Swiss strategy for cooperation with North Macedonia 2021-2024, which ensures stable and long-term implementation of project activities in the areas of democratic governance, sustainable economic development, and environment.
Interlocutors also discussed economic bilateral relations, underlining that there are opportunities, potentials and adequate capacities for much more extensive trade exchange and better overall economic cooperation in the future. In that context, participants in the meeting exchanged views and information about the economic and energy crisis due to the war in Ukraine.
