Parliamentary Committee on Health Care greenlights amendments to Law on Health Care

Skopje, 12 March 2024 (MIA) — The Parliamentary Committee on Health Care passed Tuesday in a fast-track procedure amendments to the Law on Health Care, which will allow health workers to continue working until the age of 67 as well as introduce medical training for personnel to provide aid to persons in a life-threatening condition.

Proposed by SDSM Members of Parliament Martin Kostovski and Sonja Mihailovska, the bill will make it possible for health workers who want to continue working even after reaching retirement age (of 64 years) to have their work contract extended up to 67 years of age, in line with the Law on Labor Relations.

Also, "the proposed amendments and additions to the Law on Health Care introduce a standardized and unified approach to organizing and conducting training of medical and non-medical staff to provide medical assistance to persons in a life-threatening condition," the bill says.

It also says medical training should be organized by the Medical Simulation Center as the only authorized institution.

The proposed changes foresee "organizational sciences" to be added to the requirements for a director and they also streamline operations in the public health institutions, according to the legislators proposing the bill.

The bill, adopted in a fast-track procedure, will not burden the national budget and other public financial resources, legislators said. mr/
