Parliament verifies mandates of MPs Adnan Azizi and Imerlie Saliu-Fetai

Skopje, 7 June 2024 (MIA) - At a session Friday Parliament verified the mandates of Worth It MPs Adnan Azizi and Imerlie Saliu-Fetai, and adopted the decision for the election of chairs, deputy chairs, as well as members and deputy members of the Legislative Committee and the Committee on Political System.

Azizi is taking over Tetovo Mayor’s Bilall Kasami’s seat in Parliament after he relinquished it in order to remain Mayor, while Saliu-Fetai won her seat after the revote that was held on May 22 in several polling stations in the sixth electoral district.

The bill amending the Law on the Organization and Operation of the State Administration Bodies submitted in a fast-track procedure by VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski was the third item on the agenda, however Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said the item would be deliberated once the conditions are created for it in accordance with the Rules of Procedure.

The bill was briefly withdrawn before the beginning of the session, with VMRO-DPMNE clarifying that it was done in order to correct a “nomotechnical mistake” after which it was restored to the session’s agenda. The amendments of the bill are meant to reorganize the ministries, i.e., establish new ministries and change the authorizations of several ministries.

At the session, the MPs from the majority dismissed the requests of MPs Sashko Janchev from Levica and Oliver Spasovski from SDSM that the proposed amendments be withdrawn due to the fact they were submitted in a fast-track procedure.

Spasovski, clarifying the request, said systemic laws, which increase the number of ministries and agencies, cannot be adopted in fast-track procedures.

“I want to state the position of SDSM’s parliamentary group that it is impermissible for a systemic law to be adopted in a fast-track procedure, especially a law that increases the number of ministries and agencies and that has no assessment of its impact. I am not getting into arguments, the bill, the legitimacy, but we are talking about a complex and significant legislation contrary to the Rules of Procedure, and we will vote for this item to be removed from the agenda,” Spasovski said.
