Parliament to hold urgent session on Kichevo-Ohrid motorway

Skopje, 1 April 2024 (MIA) - The Parliament will hold Monday an urgent session over the latest annex to the law on realization of infrastructure projects - construction of road sections Miladinovci-Shtip and Kichevo Ohrid, proposed by the Government.

At the request of MPs from the opposition and ruling parties, following their coordination meeting, the Parliament Speaker has scheduled an urgent session on the annex to the Law on realization of infrastructure projects - construction of road sections Miladinovci-Shtip and Kichevo Ohrid, proposed by the Government, the Office of Speaker Jovan Mitreski said in a press release.

According to the sixth annex to the contract with Chinese company "Sinohydro", the deadline for completion of the Kichevo-Ohrid motorway is postponed until the end of 2026.

Construction of the 57km-long Kichevo-Ohrid motorway began in February 2014. The initial costs were projected at EUR 374 million but rose to EUR 598 after several annexes. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has told MIA that the latest annex extends the construction deadline but the funds remain the same.
