Parliament to hold sessions leading to election of caretaker government on January 22-28

Skopje, 9 January 2024 (MIA) - The formal preparations for the caretaker government will take place in the Parliament between January 22-28, said the Speaker's Office after a coordination meeting with party whips on Tuesday.

Starting on January 22 and up to January 28, the following proceedings will take place: resignation of the Prime Minister and the Parliament Speaker, informing the President on presenting a mandate to the new PM, election of a government, ministers, deputy-ministers and additional deputy-ministers, as well as cessation of an MP term and election of a new lawmaker, said the Speaker's Office.

It adds there will be no Q&A sessions until the end of the Parliament's term.

The first Q&A session will take place after the expiry of 100 days of the government formed after the parliamentary elections, reads the press release.

Representatives of VMRO-DPMNE and opposition parties of ethnic Albanians did not attend today's coordination meeting. The latter has said it will boycott the Parliament due to the failure to elect their candidate as member of the State Election Commission.

The Parliament's first plenary session in 2024 is set for January 16.
