Parliament to hold constitutive session on Tuesday

Skopje, 27 May 2024 (MIA) – The constitutive session of the new Parliament is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28 at 11 am.
The Parliament will consist of 120 MPs, but only 118 MPs, whose mandates have already been confirmed by the State Election Commission and have been issued certificates, will be present at tomorrow's session. Appeals procedures for two seats over the May 22 revote are still ongoing. Afrim Gashi from “Worth It” coalition is most likely to be the Parliament Speaker, as confirmed this afternoon by the party working groups negotiating for a new government.
VMRO-DPMNE’s coalition "Your Macedonia" has won 58 seats in the new 120-member Parliament, followed by SDSM’s “Coalition for European Future” securing 18 seats, DUI’s European Front gained 19 seats, “Worth It” coalition garnered 14 seats, Levica 6 seats, and ZNAM Movement won 6 seats.
The newly elected Parliament convenes for its constitutive session within 20 days following the elections. The inaugural session is called by the Speaker of the Parliament, Jovan Mitreski.
Until the election of the new Parliament Speaker, according to the Rules of Procedure, the session will be chaired by the oldest member of parliament, and in the newly elected composition, that is MP Merita Kolçi-Koxhaxhiku.
The agenda of the constitutive session will include election of the Verification Committee, members of the Committee on Election and Appointment Issues, and election of Parliament Speaker.
According to the new Rules of Procedure, the constitutive session lasts a maximum of three days, and the Parliament is constituted by the election of the Speaker.
