Parliament Speaker to hold coordination meeting with MP groups

Skopje, 9 January 2024 (MIA) - The Parliament will officially start its work in 2024 with a coordination meeting of Speaker Talat Xhaferi and whips of MP groups on Tuesday, ahead of the final months of this composition, considering that the presidential and parliamentary elections will be scheduled in mid-February.

Parties have agreed that the first round of the presidential elections is to take place on April 24, whereas the runoff and the parliamentary elections will be held simultaneously on May 8.

Speaker Xhaferi, who is set to be the caretaker PM, has said the session on the election of the caretaker government will be scheduled on January 27, preceded by his resignation and the election of SDSM's Jovan Mitreski as his successor.

Today's coordination meeting will tackle the timeline of the Parliament's activities over the course of January, as well as pending election of a member of the State Election Commission from the order of the opposition.

The Parliament's first plenary session in 2024 is set for January 16.
