Skopje, 25 January 2024 (MIA) - Talat Xhaferi submitted on Thursday his resignation as Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia.  

"In accordance with Article 115 of the Parliament's Rules of Procedure, I resign from the post of Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia," reads an official press release. 

The Parliament said that Xhaferi has authorized Vice-Speaker Goran Misovski to chair Friday's  plenary session. 

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski submitted his resignation to the Parliament and met with Speaker Talat Xhaferi. 

Kovachevski's resignation initiates the processes of forming the caretaker government, which is tasked with creating the conditions for fair and democratic presidential and parliamentary elections.
