Parliament adopts amendments preventing increase of officials’ wages

Skopje, 29 February 2024 (MIA) – At a session of Parliament Thursday MPs voted to amend six laws reducing the wage coefficients of elected and appointed officials, preventing a further increase of their wages while maintaining the previous increase of 78 percent.

The amendments affect the wages of 1.060 elected and appointed officials such as the country’s President, MPs, ministers, judges, public prosecutors, members of the Judicial Council and the Council of Public Prosecutors.

The motion for the amendments was submitted by SDSM’s parliamentary group.

Regarding the wages of officials who are appointed directly by the Government and aren’t included in the legal amendments, the Government is assessing the option of intervening with a decision of its own, while the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic affairs, Fatmir Bytyqi, said the managing or supervisory boards of the public enterprises could intervene as well.
