Panel discussion "The European Union as a challenge and the challenges of the EU: Europe 74 years since the Schuman Declaration"

Skopje, 3 June 2024 (MIA) - The European Movement in the Republic of North Macedonia in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation are organizing an event on Tuesday celebrating Europe Day - May 9. 

"According to the tradition, the event has both a working and festive character, containing several activities in just one day. In the first part, after the ceremonial addresses, a panel discussion will be held on the topic: "The European Union as a challenge and the challenges of the EU: Europe 74 years since the Schuman Declaration". The second part of the event will be organized as a Youth Club including an Oratory Competition and Youth Debate on the topic “Young people and democratic values: Do we want, can we be and how to be an active citizen?”, as well as EU Knowledge Quiz," the organizers said in a press release.  

High level officials, the diplomatic corps, the academic community, representatives of civil society organizations, students and other stakeholders will take part in the panel. 

According to the organizers, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, President of the Republic of North Macedonia, will deliver an opening address as a keynote speaker. Speakers also include Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Petra Drexler and Ambassador of Slovak Republic Henrik Markus.  

The event will be opened by Mileva Gjurovska, President of the European Movement, Daniel Braun, Official Representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Ben Nupnau, Deputy Head of EU Delegation.

As part of the event, a plaque for European Person of the Year 2023 will be awarded to opera artist Blagoj Nacoski.
