PACE Monitoring Committee adopts draft-resolution to close post-monitoring dialogue with North Macedonia

Skopje, 11 December 2025 (MIA) - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) Monitoring Committee held a meeting in Paris on December 9, during which it adopted a draft-resolution to close the post-monitoring dialogue with the Republic of North Macedonia, the Parliament of North Macedonia said in a press release Thursday.

The conclusion of the draft-resolution, which is set to be discussed at a plenary session in January 2026, suggests that the post-monitoring dialogue with North Macedonia should be closed, as well as that the Monitoring Committee should devote within a few years one of its future periodic reviews to North Macedonia to evaluate progress in pluralist democracy, rule of law, and human rights. With this, after 25 years, the country is successfully finalizing the post-monitoring dialogue with PACE, Parliament said in a press release.

The PACE Monitoring Committee monitors the respect for democratic standards that participating states have agreed to upon accession, especially issues such as human rights, rule of law, and free elections. The Committee drafts progress reports for each country and recommends steps for improvement. The working body consists of 93 MPs appointed by the Parliamentary Assembly based on nominations from the six political groups.

The head of the delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Marija Petrushevska, and delegation member, Bisera Kostadinovska-Stojchevska, are a part of the Committee.
