Osmani visits NATO-led Enhanced Forward Presence battle group in Latvia, meets Macedonian troops
Skopje, 11 November 2022 (MIA) – In the framework of his visit to Latvia on Friday, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani visited Camp Ādaži, where nine Army members are a part of NATO’s Canadian-led multinational Enhanced Forward Presence battle group under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Philippe Sauvé.
During his visit to the camp, Osmani met with the NATO battle group commander Igors Harlapenkovs and held a short meeting with the Macedonian soldiers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
FM Osmani particularly underlined the importance of the decisions from the NATO Summit in Madrid to strengthen NATO’s defensive positions in order to preserve the territorial integrity and sovereignty of its member countries.
“The participation in the multinational Enhanced Forward Presence battle group in Latvia is proof of our commitment to the security and stability of the entire Euro-Atlantic area, including the Alliance’s Eastern flank, at a time when it is most needed,” said Osmani, adding that North Macedonia has demonstrated its firm commitment to providing assistance and support to Ukraine through a bilateral basis and through NATO’s assistance mechanisms.
Members of the Macedonian Army have been a part of the Canadian-led Enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group in Latvia since June, within the Slovenian contingent, said the MFA. ad/ik/
