Osmani: SEECP Chairmanship coming to an end, new RCC Secretary General elected

Skopje, 12 June 2024 (MIA) - "Strengthening regional security infrastructure threatened by current challenges - How to proceed further?" is the topic of this year's final meeting of foreign ministers within the framework of North Macedonia's Chairmanship of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), which will be held June 13-14 in Skopje.

At Wednesday's press conference ahead of the meeting, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said these activities mark the end of the country's SEECP Chairmanship and that a new Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Secretary General has been elected.

"Today, through the Committee of Political Directors of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, we reached a consensus and elected candidate Amer Kapetanovic from Sarajevo as new RCC Secretary General and SEECP Chairperson-in-Office," Osmani said.

According to him, this act preserves the stability, continuity, and functionality of both SEECP and RCC.

"This is another success for North Macedonia following the OSCE chairmanship in 2023. Our country has once again reaffirmed its position on the international stage," Osmani stressed.

He added that intensive work is being done to harmonize the text of the final Joint Declaration, which will reiterate the shared commitment to reach compromise and acceptable solutions that will lead us to reconciliation, dialogue, overcoming past issues, economic development, and accelerate EU membership process.

A total of 13 SEECP delegations will take part in the summit of heads of state and governments, including EU and RCC representatives.
