Osmani: Replacing head of MFA protocol and appointment of ambassador to Moscow are two unrelated processes
Skopje, 1 November 2022 (MIA) - A man from the Macedonian Diplomatic Union (MDS), who threw stones at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), broke windows and gave speeches against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, knowing that it was against the ethical code of diplomacy, has now been put in the service of the party's agenda, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said Tuesday in response to a reporter's question about the MDS claim that his information that the head of protocol at the Foreign Ministry has resigned is false. “There is democracy in the country, but I must explain that it is fake news. Unfortunately, it's one man from the union and not the whole union because there are two unions here and we work together on a daily basis,” Osmani underlined. Regarding the allegations in the MDS press statement that “the head of the protocol in the MFA should leave in a week as an ambassador to a big country,” Osmani confirmed that it was Russia. “We were supposed to appoint an ambassador to Moscow sometime early this year. He passed all the procedures, but then the aggression against Ukraine happened and we decided to lower the level of diplomatic relations with Russia and not appoint an ambassador. Since the ambassador was off duty, I appointed him director of protocol, and he has been performing that role until now,” Osmani said at the press conference following his meeting with his counterpart from Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi on Tuesday. He added that on the day when during the visit of his Slovenian colleague Tanja Fajon to the country, the Slovak flag was displayed on the table where she sat with him instead of the flag of her country Slovenia, the head of protocol informed him that due to moral responsibility he asked to be dismissed from the position. “Even his formal notification was that he was resigning due to moral responsibility, and I accepted it, because I thought that a message should be given that it would never happen again,” Osmani said, adding that this incident is a completely separate issue from his "appointment as ambassador to Moscow.” FM Osmani noted that the decision on whether and when we will appoint an ambassador to Moscow will be political, depending on whether we will assess that as OSCE chair, we will need to have communication with the Russian Federation as well. “But it is not related to this process in function of the protocol. It will be a political decision when we will appoint an ambassador, but these are two unrelated processes,” Osmani said.
