Skopje, 10 April 2023 (MIA) – As OSCE chair country, North Macedonia, together with the EU and UN, strives for a peaceful, comprehensive and sustainable solution to the conflicts affecting Georgia, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani at a joint press conference with his Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili, following their meeting in Tbilisi on Monday.
“The Geneva International Discussions and the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism are vital diplomatic processes that must remain open, not only to avoid further escalations, but also to deal with the consequences of the 2008 conflict in Georgia,” said Osmani.
In that context, and in the spirit of the slogan of North Macedonia’s OSCE Chairpersonship – “It’s About People”, Osmani stressed his support for all pragmatic approaches for a peaceful solution of the situation, in order to provide real results for the people affected by the conflict.
“Allow me to be clear, this is what they expect from us, to offer real results that will allow them to live their life in a state of peace and prosperity,” said Osmani.
The Foreign Minister added that OSCE will spare no effort to improve their situation and, in cooperation with its partners, will continue to promote freedom of movement and raise essential humanitarian issues, especially concerning imprisoned, displaced and missing persons, adding that OSCE will continue to support displaced women and children impacted by the conflict.
“We must work to find ways to boost the process of reconciliation,” said Osmani and added that as part of his activities in Georgia, he will meet with citizens in order to learn more about the challenges they are facing.
At the end of the meeting, Osmani reiterated that OSCE will continue to provide essential support for the implementation of the commitments related to the Organization’s three dimensions, which will also contribute to the internal reform processes in Georgia.
“For many years, OSCE and its participating states, such as Georgia, have played an integral role in securing stability and security in the broader OSCE region. Therefore, allow me to assure you that my goal as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office is to strengthen and deepen our cooperation and promote peace and stability during these uncertain times,” added Osmani.
During his visit to Tbilisi, Foreign Minister Osmani is expected to meet with the President and the Prime Minister of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili and Irakli Garibashvili.
Georgia is the first destination on Osmani’s four-day visit to the South Caucasus region, as part of which he will visit Azerbaijan and Armenia as well.
