Osmani: North Macedonia committed to global fight against antisemitism

Skopje, 10 March 2023 (MIA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani held a meeting Friday with a delegation of Israel's Knesset, led by Hamad Amar, chair of the North Macedonia friendship group, and Tsega Melaku group member, at which they discussed the relations between the two countries as well as North Macedonia’s commitment to the global fight against antisemitism.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the friendly relations between the two countries were stressed at the meeting, and further deepening of cooperation was discussed with a special emphasis on the parliamentary aspect.

Apart from these topics, focus was placed on the observance of the 80th anniversary of the deportation of the Macedonian Jews to camp Treblinka in occupied Poland in 1943, set to take place this year through several commemorative events, said the Ministry.

Minister Osmani stressed the importance of North Macedonia’s full-fledged membership in the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), as a clear confirmation of the country’s commitment not only to the memory, education and research of the Holocaust, but also to the global fight against antisemitism and the overall activities to the improvement of the lives of the members of the Jewish community throughout the world. ad/ik/
