Skopje, 30 June 2022 (MIA) – We are coming back from Madrid with a new, modified proposal of the French Presidency that will immediately be put into a process of institutional consultations and public insight, says Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani. “Huge gratitude to President Macron, the entire EU Presidency, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz for their efforts to ensure a new revised proposal as a new opportunity to unblock the European integration of the country and the region,” FM Osmani wrote in a Facebook post. Osmani told Kanal 5 TV that the modified proposal addresses North Macedonia’s remarks on the draft-proposal that was distributed among EU member states, but the entire package needs to be reviewed followed by official communication with Paris on the next steps. “The French President said this is the final proposal of the French Presidency and considering it ends today at midnight, we will assess if we accept this proposal or not,” said Osmani. The FM will present the proposal before the Cabinet, followed by the document’s distribution to all relevant state institutions, hoping it could be unveiled to the public on Friday. “The sooner we finish consultations, the better for us regarding the process itself, but we must not rush these steps. Nevertheless, a more dynamic agenda would be beneficial,” said Osmani. According to him, if the French proposal is eventually accepted, the start of the EU accession negotiations is a matter of days.
