Osmani: DUI ready to leave Gov’t until elections if opposition supports constitutional amendments

Skopje, 7 June 2023 (MIA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani, who is also the spokesperson of DUI, said in a Facebook post Wednesday that his party is prepared to support a Government in which it will not participate until the next elections, if the opposition supports the constitutional amendments.

“DUI is ready to support a Government without DUI until the elections if the opposition supports the constitutional amendments, and they are implemented before the formation of the new Government. The European future of the citizens above all!” wrote Osmani on Facebook.

The idea of a Government without DUI emerged as a result of Wednesday’s meeting between Prime Minister and SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski and VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski.

“VMRO-DPMNE is prepared to join a Government with SDSM and the other political parties, but without DUI’s participation in that Government,” said Mickoski after the meeting and added that he “clearly” told the PM that VMRO-DPMNE and its coalition remain on the position that they will not support constitutional amendments under Bulgarian dictate and under the current circumstances.

In answer to a journalist’s question after the meeting regarding Osmani’s post, PM Kovachevski said he doesn’t want to comment. “Once all political parties express their positions, then we will be able to build a common position,” said Kovachevski, who in his statement stressed that the meeting made it clear that VMRO-DPMNE is not against the constitutional amendments.

“It is good that the position presented this morning by VMRO-DPMNE vice-president Timcho Mucunski is different from what I heard at today's meeting, which is that VMRO-DPMNE is not against the constitutional amendments, and this is the conclusion from the meeting,” said Kovachevski after the meeting with Mickoski.
