Opposition parties of ethnic Albanians begin Parliament boycott due to SEC member issue

Skopje, 9 January 2024 (MIA) - The coalition of opposition parties of ethnic Albanians "European Alliance for Change" began Tuesday its Parliament boycott by not showing at the coordination meeting of Speaker Talat Xhaferi with party whips, the coalition has told MIA.

MP Safije Sadiki Shaini said they would use other forms of boycott unless their candidate Abdush Demiri is elected member of the State Election Commission (SEC).

"We will boycott the Parliament if our candidate is not elected as SEC member at a plenary session. Our first step is our no-show at the coordination meeting with the Speaker. I have raised this issue at every coordination meeting but Xhaferi has always elaborated and explained, while in fact sabotaging and manipulating," said Sadiki Shaini.

She added that if the SEC member is not elected, they would be forced to use other methods, "such as blocking polling stations in Tetovo and Chair" in order to protect the citizens' vote".
