Opening of Macedonian culture center “Nikola Vapcarov” in Blagoevgrad
Skopje, 30 October 2022 (MIA) – Macedonian culture center “Nikola Vapcarov” is set to open in the Bulgarian city of Blagoevgrad on Sunday.
President’s Office Secretary General Mile Boshnjakovski will attend the event, as will VMRO-DPMNE and Levica leaders, Hristijan Mickoski and Dimitar Apasiev respectively, along with a delegation of party Demokratski Sojuz.
Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said he would not attend but reiterated that clubs aimed to bring states and people closer should be supported.
Ahead of the club’s opening, Bulgarian party VMRO-BND has announced a protest.
The Blagoevgrad city council recently released a declaration, in which it opposes the opening of the culture club, saying the act represents a provocation. This prompted a response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs “due to the improper qualifications in the declaration related to the Macedonian people”.
